After Hours reflects on my experiences working late into the night in Manchester, and the strange relationship I developed with the city on my journeys home.
Long after the working day had ended, the city never quite stopped. Trams continued to pass, traffic moved through empty junctions and pockets of people appeared and disappeared beneath the streetlights. Elsewhere, only a few windows remained lit, while canals, buildings and streets seemed to fall into an almost complete stillness.
Walking home at this hour, I became increasingly aware of the contrasts around me: movement and isolation, crowds and emptiness, the public city and the private experience of passing through it alone.
These photographs are an attempt to capture those fragments of Manchester as I encountered them after hours. A city still moving, but beginning to feel strangely empty.
