Drives with Dad reflects on some of my fondest childhood memories: the awe-inspiring vastness encountered from the back seat of whatever the family car of the year happened to be.

My family would annually take a trip into the Peak District National Park, and I have particularly strong memories of those journeys. Being driven through places such as Winnats Pass, a huge, almost carnivorous valley, I remember feeling as though we had travelled back in time to the age of the dinosaurs. The landscape seemed enormous, ancient and beyond my understanding as I viewed it from the car, carrying us through what felt like miles and miles of isolation.

Memories of those journeys now make me feel incredibly nostalgic. I remember how small I felt, yet completely safe, fully trusting that my Dad knew his way everywhere.

As an adult, I found myself drawn to that feeling. This short portfolio showcases something of the wonder I experienced, all those years ago, on my drives with Dad.
