In the shadow of the lands is an exploration of the landscape not merely as a subject, but as an emotional mirror.

Set in places where nature thrives and human presence is humbled by the scale and permanence of the landscape. My aim for the photographs was to document a personal anxiety: insignificance.

This collection explores a relationship I first encountered high above the waters of Ullswater in the Lake District National Park: Looking out towards an oncoming storm, I observed a tiny speck on the water below: a passenger ferry, the last journey of the day. To the scores of human lives on board, this ferry doubtless felt huge. But from my viewpoint, it had been reduced by the immense landscape to a nearly indistinguishable speck.

This was the spark that crystallised my own feelings; alone on a mountainside - a tiny speck about to be engulfed in a storm that cared nothing for me.

Through these images, I invite you to look closely, and feel the profound stillness of a world that continues to function entirely despite us.
